What We Do
The County operates 15 libraries that provide a wide array of services and programs for children, teens and adults. In addition to books, the libraries offer magazines and newspapers, local history documents, reference works, foreign language materials, DVDs, music CDs, books-on-CD, and downloadable audio and e-books. The libraries also provide many programs such as a reading program for all ages, film series, computer instruction, job workshops, book discussions, writing workshops, animal programs and other programs to encourage lifelong learning and development.
In 2014, The County Libraries changed hours of operation to increase community access to materials. The libraries also continued a successful cross-training program for small branch library managers to provide greater staff support, ensure best practices are being followed, and close the feedback loop of communication. The County of San Luis Obispo Libraries also upgraded staff and public Internet stations to a fully-supported operating system.
